Customer Critiques
This is extremely readable given that it was nicely written but I wasn't crazy about it. It really is a long, slow moving psychological thriller. This could be a matter of taste, so I am talking to readers like me who choose more rapidly paced action. This a single just keeps going on and on about mysterious characters and oblique references to dark secrets in the past. There had been many occasions when I was saying, "get on with it and make something happen."
I did not find any of the characters appealing, especially the primary character, Emma. She comes across as weak and insipid and does definitely stupid points, like going alone into a dark basement with a smell of decomposition, or turning down the acting function of a lifetime simply because the casting director won't tell her who referred her to him. The author could have been trying to show her reaction to the anxiety she was beneath but I just found it annoying.
Kept reading waiting for what I was sure was going to be a sucker punch ending, and I did not figure out who did it beforehand, but by the end I just did not care.
From the begging of the book it was major up to one thing extraordinary. Although the writing was enjoyable and simple to follow, it by no means arrives at a location I had hope or expected. Swift read, but I wish I had the time back as the ending appears like it was just tacked on.
