Customer Critiques

I seriously like fiction/fantasy books like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Ranger's Apprentice, and so on..., and I am pretty loyal. The issue I've had in the past was there are as well many copied fantasy series also comparable to already established series (i.e. coming-of-age boy just getting out he's a wizard, or adventurers with a dwarf and elf, and all these books about vampire or werewolf sex - thanks to the Twilight series I suspect, and so on...)
It takes me a whilst to warm up to a new book, so when I uncover a series, I stick with it. I downloaded this book to my kindle given that it was cost-free - I figured I had absolutely nothing to lose, and I am happy I did. The Awakened is a incredibly well written original story that kept me guessing all through the entire book. I did not know who the main protagonist was until I was nicely into the book, and just when I thought I was jaded to any plot-twist, the twist at the finish - it produced ideal sense! How could I have missed it!
I do not want to give away the story, all I'm saying is that if you like action packed fiction/ fantasy with a small political intrigue/conspiracy, then you will honestly like this book.

So I bought this book unsure of what to count on. I read the book description, believed, OK, not what I commonly look for in a book, but I'll try it. Read the testimonials (mostly five stars) and decided that maybe it is greater than I was already beginning to consider.
I painstakingly managed to get all the way through the book, and am nonetheless struggling to figure out why it got such good reviews...
WRITING: The author's writing style is not actually all that excellent, it is not particularly engaging, I located that the huge amount of detail is just uninteresting and unnecessary, and that his use of vocabulary is hassle-free and from time to time repetitive (maybe it is just me, but i do not like reading the same word four times inside 3 sentences).
CHARACTERS: The characters in the story aren't interesting and they all act in a similar predictable manner. They don't set anything into motion and their person personalities are not nicely defined. Fundamentally, they all just sit about and wait for the un-cataclysmic events in this book to take place.
PLOT: The plot of this book was downright boring...I kept waiting for one thing to occur that would throw almost everything off balance and create that "and the plot thickens..." moment, but it simply in no way occurred. Largely, I felt as if i had been regularly reading about the character waking up, carrying out something like eating breakfast or rolling more than, and thinking about one thing uninteresting, and then ghosting via the rest of his/her day. The most intriguing pages had been almost certainly the final two, when some thing mildly suspenseful actually occurred, and just when the book started to engage me for the 1st time, it abruptly ended.
In brief, this book definitely was just a single major, extended, boring intro to the rest of the series. I wouldn't suggest it, and based on the quality of this initial book, I probably won't read the 2nd and 3rd installments.
